Matthew Schmidt is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University and a Mentor at SUNY Empire State College. His interest in science dates back to his childhood, when he became interested in astronomy, evolution, and ecology. After receiving his B.S. in Environmental Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 1987, he decided that Molecular Biology was his greatest interest, and was accepted to the Ph. D. program in Genetics at Stony Brook University, from which he graduated in 1995.
